Reviewer guidelines
MATILDA editors ask two reviewers to review a submission: a content reviewer and an accessibility reviewer. If you have been invited to review for MATILDA, Please use the review form provided by the editor through email to submit your review. We aim for a smooth review process, so your answers to review questions can be simply “Yes” or “No”, unless we ask you to elaborate.
If this is your first time reviewing for MATILDA, we advise you to read our content principles of the author guidelines.
1 Content reviewer
A content reviewer is an expert in the relevant area of the article’s topic and checks whether the content is correct, whether there is content missing, and whether content should be linked to other MATILDA articles. The review form contains the following questions:
- Is the importance of the topic for ILD research clear and complete? If not, please elaborate.
- Is the information in the article correct? If not, please elaborate.
- Is there relevant content missing on the article? If yes, should this content be discussed within the article or should it link to another article where this is discussed?
- Is there information in the article that is not relevant for this specific article? If yes, should this content be removed, shortened, or discussed in a different article?
- Do you have any other comments?
2 Accessibility reviewer (envisioned user)
An accessibility reviewer is an envisioned user of MATILDA, that is, a substantive researcher that wants to study psychological processes, that checks whether the content of an article is easily understood and whether the examples encourage comprehension. The review form contains the following questions:
- Is it clear why this article is part of MATILDA (i.e., does it guide researchers that want to study processes with ILD)? If not, please elaborate.
- Is any content in the article unclear? If yes, please elaborate.
- Is there any content missing in the article? If yes, please elaborate.
- Do all examples boxes add to the explanation of the topic? If not, please elaborate.
- Do you have any suggestions for improving the accessibility of the article?
3 Anonymity
Reviewers may choose to review anonymously or not. You can indicate this on the review form. Please note that if you review an article written by a member of MATILDA’s editorial office then we cannot guarantee anonymity.
4 Open peer review
Please note that we aim to publish all communication of the review process, including your answers to the review questions, on our OSF page. If you choose to review anonymously, your review will be published without your name.
