Model Navigator
MATILDA’s Model Navigator
The Model Navigator is based on a set of questions about the temporal pattern that characterizes the process you are interested in.
To answer these questions, you can use:
the theory you have about the patterns of the process you want to study; and/or
the knowledge you have about patterns in the measurements of your process.
By answering the questions of the Model Navigator, you will be guided to a set of models that seems most suitable for the kind of process that you are interested in.
MATILDA’s Model Navigator only includes \(N=1\) univariate time series models, sometimes extended with exogenous inputs. These models are among the simplest models for intensive longitudinal data. They can be thought of as the fundamental building blocks in \(N>1\) models, like dynamic multilevel modeling. Furthermore, for many of these models multivariate extensions exist that tend to allow for increasingly more complicated patterns, especially as the number of variables increases. Hence, the Model Navigator should be considered as a starting point, but it is most likely not a means to a definitive end point.
